Carisbrooke Street House

2001

This is a family holiday house built at Balnarring Beach on Western Port Bay in Victoria. It is for various members of a family to use at different times.

The north facade is all glass with sliding doors at regular intervals. The roof form is a continuous gable with a mezzanine on the south side over bedrooms, kitchen and bathrooms. This space is used for a kid-hang out or an extra sleeping space or even a home office are is its use now. This space is lit by large openable skylight windows. These ventilate the lower spaces during summer.

The transparency of the living space connects the front garden with the rear and leads to an informal use of both spaces.
