A house for Gallway Street Chewton

This small timber framed house was to be built as a second dwelling on a 4.4 hectare property on the outskirts of the small rural town of Chewton in central Victoria. The owner of the property entered into a Covenant for the Conservation of Land with the TRUST FOR NATURE (VICTORIA). He had self built a small mud brick house on the property, his daughter now wants to build a home close by on a limited budget.

The concept for this house has evolved from ideas developed in a house designed in 1993, SHINGLE house, where the living space was enclosed by other more functional spaces, especially on the east and west, that created a buffer from the outside without isolating it.

This project has been permitted and is waiting funding for construction.
