The client wished to develop this site as an ideal example of affordable sustainable housing. The site is narrow and flanked by three-story apartments that restrict sunlight. The solution was to create single-storey, one-bedroom courtyard units on the ground floor and above this two-storey, two-bedroom units, with access to roof decks. Bricks from the demolished single dwelling on the site were to be re-used for the ground floor, while lightweight plantation pine was proposed to construct the upper floors. The project has a planning permit. The client sold the site prior to construction and the site is currently vacant.
